Defence retirees call for a fair go

DEFENCE pensioners and their families are ramping up their campaign for higher pensions, demanding a fairer system for ex-servicemen.

Retired defence personnel vowed to continue their fight after the government refused to index their pensions in line with other pensions in June last year.

Plans for better military superannuation, compensation, veteran's disability payments and health care were discussed at the Alliance of Defence Service Organisation's forum at Townsville RSL yesterday.

This is an excpert from the Townsville Bulletin Dated Feb 13. You can read the entire Article HERE

DFWA has made an excellent submission

DFWA has made an excellent submission on the 2010 – 2011 Defence Annual Report.

I would encourage everyone to read it. It is comprehensive and covers the superannuation issue in some detail. It also has an excellent paper on the Uniqueness of Military Service, which we all should use when speaking with Politicians and our friends.

The link to the DFWA Submission is HERE

Cheers,

Neil

Excerpt From A letter from the Office of Senator Brown:

"We are committed to working with government to find a way in which this can be addressed in a financially responsible manner. Our proposal that a properly applied tax on mining super profits which would raise an extra $100 billion over the decade has been rejected by both the major parties." (My emphasis). This obviously implies that the Greens too no longer believe that the CPI is the most relevant indexation method."

So, even though Senator Brown didn't get the LNP support for his mining tax legislation he admitted that it was simply a matter of finding the money.

Well we need to remind him that we will be voting at the next election and that he should revisit this matter.

We suggest to our members that they should complete the Greens survey (HERE) but ensure they include relevant points on the DFRB/DFRDB/MSBS/Disability Pension in their responses.

Cheers,

Neil

Peter Criss to the Punch

PunchimageTrue to her word the editor of The Punch has run my most recent OPED aimed at trying to dispel some commonly held myths. The Punch link for the article is titled "War is hell and military life is no picnic" They elected to use their own heading. You will note in the second last sentence reference to the meeting in Canberra scheduled for this coming Sunday that the press is referring to a "butcher paper and textas" meeting of all Labor MPs.

The timing of the article is perfect and hopefully our supporters will be able to use this and other material from Fair Go and ADSO to write or e-mail their local members and senators urging them stop trying to ignore a problem that is going to cost them government if they do not take genuine and fair action before the next election to reform military superannuation indexation.

A letter to a local paper

Here is a great letter to a local paper. This is something that we can all do for our local papers to continue to raise the pulic awarenes

Nothing has Changes Since...

bagsnatcherIndeed, the more times change the more they remain the same!

And from the "Australian Worker"?

In FEB 21 the Widow's entitlement was reduced to 20 shillings weekly in lieu of the original 42 shillings weekly under the old scale!

"Bag Snatcher" Billy depicts exactly what occurs in 2011 regards Defence superannuation entitlements and Widow's Entitlements!

Is it any different in 2011 when current MPs continue to screw Returned Soldiers entitlements, their widow's entitlements, children entitlements and Peace Time soldier's entitlements ad nauseum?

Come on the next election and Have A  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
